The Regulatory Framework Modernization effort (under the Regulatory Development Program) supports the ART-GCR program by participating in various industry and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) interactions influencing advanced non-light water reactor (LWR) licensing through the establishment of a defined and predictable regulatory framework. This ensures that U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Research and Development (R&D) activities are appropriately aligned with addressing areas of licensing technical requirement uncertainty within the changing regulatory development.
Objectives of the Regulatory Framework Modernization effort include:
Providing licensing strategy support for the GCR program
Developing regulatory pathways that support NRC commercial licensing of GCRs
Providing innovative regulatory development strategies in areas such as emergency planning, staffing, and other emerging issues for the GCR industry.
